I am always so inspired by my aikido students. Aikido is a unique practice. In todays world of constant distraction aikido is rare because it demands our full presence and attention. This isn’t an easy path. Our instincts for that kind of sustained attention have been dulled. Aikido practice consistently calls us to submit to it, bow to it. Having students willing to engage in that journey is an immeasurable gift.
There isn’t a great deal of sweetness in our practice. There are no aikido trophies, and little is made of our progress, or our achievements. However, each practice provides a transformative opportunity. I am grateful for that path, and that wellspring of something existing beyond my me-ness. I am grateful for the heartfelt dedication of those that preceded me and those that will follow me. Happy thanksgiving!
