From frigid to falling

RA Angotti, Chief Instructor

February has brought us many reasons to stay indoors, however it has also brought new faces and new energy to the dojo. Our Monday evening class starts the week off well. Members are rekindling their practice through vigorous training. Likewise, our Wednesday introductory sessions are filled with the sincere efforts of new participants. It has been a pleasure sharing our practice and participating in the aikido awakenings of these new guests. Finally, our kids class has been a real pleasure. We have been rejoined by some students recently and we have welcomed some new students. Every time I see these young people I am grateful to have an enlivening practice to share with them. Everyday I learn something through them!

Despite all these encouraging signs we must all remain diligent. The indications are that we will be seeing a new surge of COVID cases throughout the next weeks and months. In particular the UK strain (B117) of coronavirus is more infectious and leads to more severe illness. There are over 700 reported cases of this strain in the US currently. There are surely larger numbers of unreported cases. B117 is doubling every ten days. This means we would see nearly 1 million new cases of this strain within 6 weeks or less.

My request to participants at this time is that we all do our best to protect one another and our community. Please limit your social circle in order to reduce the likelihood of spread at the dojo. If you suspect you have been exposed please communicate with the dojo so that we can initiate protocols to limit additional infections. The requests outlined in this July post remain in effect at this time.

Thank you for your continued support!
